What is Dance Movement Psychotherapy DMP?

Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is a form of creative therapy that uses movement and dance to support emotional, social, physical, and psychological wellbeing. It’s based on the understanding that body and mind are connected, and that how we move can express feelings and experiences that may be difficult to put into words.

For Children and Young People

In a DMP session, children and young people are invited to move, play, and explore through their bodies in a safe and supportive space. Movement becomes a way to communicate, build confidence, and process emotions. There’s no need for dance experience – sessions are guided by each individual’s abilities and needs.

Our therapists are trained to observe and respond to movement patterns, helping children develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and connection with others. Sessions may also include other creative approaches such as art, music, or talking.

For Adults

For adults, DMP offers a reflective and embodied way to reconnect with oneself and explore emotions through movement. It can help reduce stress, release tension, and promote greater body awareness and emotional clarity. Sessions often focus on themes such as self-expression, resilience, relationships, and personal growth. Whether you’re managing anxiety, recovering from trauma, or seeking creative wellbeing, DMP provides a safe and compassionate space to explore and restore balance.

We offer group and one-to-one DMP sessions for adults in spaces across London, creating a nurturing environment where every person can express themselves freely, explore their feelings, and grow through movement.
